James Ryan, lovingly known as “Jimmy” to those who knew him best, passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 18. A proud member of the Baldwinsville Central School District’s Class of 2025, Jimmy’s life, though far too short, left a deep and lasting impression on his community.
Born on February 28, 2007, Jimmy grew up in Baldwinsville, New York, where he became known for his bright smile, warm heart, and unwavering kindness. He was a student-athlete at Charles W. Baker High School, proudly wearing jersey number 11 on the boys varsity football team. As a wide receiver and cornerback, Jimmy brought dedication, energy, and teamwork to the field—attributes that extended far beyond football.
Jimmy stood 5’6″, weighed 145 pounds, and carried with him the heart of a lion. His friends and teammates remember him not just for his athletic ability, but for his easygoing nature and infectious laughter that could light up any room.
Baldwinsville Central School District shared the heartbreaking news of his passing and announced a candlelight vigil in his memory. The gathering will take place on Tuesday, July 8 at 6:30 PM at Beaver Lake Nature Center, offering family, friends, classmates, and community members a space to honor and remember him.
Amanda McCarthy, one of his former teachers at Little Luke’s school-age program, shared her sorrow, writing:
“I am so heartbroken to hear the news of Jimmy’s passing. He was such a good kid, great friend, kind and silly. I remember talking to his parents all the time about their camping trips. He will be greatly missed. Praying for God’s peace and comfort over your family.”
Jimmy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him—his family, friends, coaches, classmates, and teachers. He was a young man of promise, compassion, and courage, and his loss is felt deeply by the entire Baldwinsville community.
As we grieve together, may we also celebrate the joy Jimmy brought into the world and keep his light burning in our hearts.
